Byway Leader Training

This curriculum is designed for byway leaders who want to learn about the Scenic Byway Program and leaders who want to rejuvenate their byway organizations.

Byway Leader Training is an important way for Byway leaders, volunteers, tourism professionals, state Byway coordinators, and agency representatives to begin or renew their Byway planning and management familiarity. Networking with other Byway leaders may be the best reason to attend.

Learn:

  • How Byway organizations are thriving without Federal funding
  • Interpretation and how to Tell Your Story
  • Strategies to update your Corridor Management Plan (CMP)
  • Priorities for marketing, partnerships, and fundraising
  • Byway jargon – Wayshowing, viewshed protection, resource interpretation, and more

Colorado – Cripple Creek, June 6-7, 2022, hosted by the Gold Belt National Scenic Byway. Sponsored by the Colorado Scenic & Historic Byway Program and Cripple Creek Colorado. Reduced accommodation rates offered upon registration to all participants.

Coming to you from the National Scenic Byway Foundation Office along the Amish Country Byway in Millersburg, Ohio. Dates and times to be determined. 

State Byway Coordinator Orientation Training

OFFERED BY DEMAND – contact Sharon Strouse at the National Scenic Byway Foundation office to request a training be offered. Dates and times will be coordinated with other interested State Byway Coordinators.

Virtual – February 24-25, 2021, from Noon-4:00pm ET (Class closed – full)

This is a new program offering for State Byway Coordinators, DOT Byway Planners, and related agency Byway Managers or Consultants. Our ‘Orientation Training’ curriculum is designed to familiarize state byway coordinators with byway best practices and state byway program guidelines from across the country.

  • National Scenic Byway Program and Federal Guidelines

Instructors via Zoom will include Lenore Bates, Colorado; Michael McClanahan, Tennessee; Ann Gravatt, Delaware; Chris Sieverdes, Ohio and Sharon Strouse, Executive Director of the National Scenic Byway Foundation. Together these byway leaders have a combined 75 years of experience leading, managing, and advising byway organizations.  The SBCOT application is linked below.
